Full Sweep Broom

The Full Sweep is a thicker, heavier, sturdier broom for sweeping uneven floors.  A working broom that is great on a wooden floor or a rough surface.  The stiffer bristles go deep into grout lines and grooves on an uneven floor.

The handle’s width is thicker to accommodate an additional layer of broom corn.  All wooden handles are made from several different species of hard woods.  Each handle is unique.  I search our wooded areas, fence lines and creek banks for small weed trees, dead-fall or drift wood that is rich in character.

I use a stouter nylon twine to plait the 100% natural broom corn onto the handle.  The length of plaiting on each broom varies due to the nature of the broom corn.  The plaiting area of a Full Sweep is thicker around the handle due to the 3rd layer of broom corn.

Natural fibered twine is used to sew the sweep.  I use cotton and waxed linen to sew the sweep flat.  Generally each broom is sewn 3 times to firmly hold the shape of the broom’s sweep.

The picture shows a full sweep in the center.  An uncut sweep is great for persons with allergies because there is less dust created.  A cut sweep is a stiffer bristled broom then a broom with an uncut sweep.
