Hearth Broom
A fireside broom small enough to hang along-side tools used in a fireplace. Broom has a narrower sweep for use in and around the fireplace. This broom is also handy in a car, boat, camping tent, or shop. Broom corn can be sewn flat or round. Wooden handles are made from several different species of hard woods. Each handle is unique. I search our wooded areas, fence lines, and creek banks for small weed trees, dead-fall or drift wood that is rich in character. I may also find some interesting handles in barn yards. Strong nylon twine is used to plait the 100% natural broom corn onto the handle. The length of plaiting on each broom varies due to the nature of the broom corn and handle. Natural fibered twine is used to sew the sweep. I use cotton, waxed linen or artificial sinew to sew the sweep flat. Generally each broom is sewn 3 times to firmly hold the shape of the broom’s sweep. These brooms are very attractive near the fireplace. Hearth Broom – Approximate length 25″. Ornate Hearth Broom - Broom handle is more fanciful. One-of-a-kind wooden handle may contain buck rubs, wrapped vines, burls or imperfections that are accented in the wood or unique handles found in the barn yard and forest. Custom Order - Broom pictured at left is an Custom Order Deer Antler Hearth Broom with colored broom corn accents. Broom handle is more fanciful. Ornate objects may be added or used as a unique handle. Unique wooden handles may be used. Hand-Forged Iron Handle - custom order a handle that matches your fireplace tool set. |
